1 cup Macaroni noodles, uncooked
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup butter
2 eggs
1 slice white bread
2 cups grated cheddar cheese, the older the better
Salt and pepper, to taste
Cook macaroni noodles. Separate eggs. Drain noodles and put in a medium casserole dish, add egg yolks; tear bread into small pieces and stir into macaroni.
In a sauce pan, heat the milk and butter (do not bring to a boil). Pour over noodles. Stir in grated cheese, reserve some cheese for topping.
Whip egg whites with mixer until firm. Gently fold egg whites into noodle mixture, do not over mix. Top with cheese.
Place casserole dish in larger dish filled with about 1" of water. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 50 minutes, top should be golden brown.
